Yes. It's the original file with the uncompressed/unchanged audio.
Also, here's a fun thing: You can dump all the files from tenta.cle with DFE and then delete it. The game will just run with the unpacked stuff.
I've tried replacing the maniac mansion files with other games but no dice, just crashes when you use the computer :P

I've read that they replaced maniac mansion's main menu. If that's true that may be the problem.
I think the problem is that somewhere in dott.exe is a copy of maniac.exe. Replacing the datafiles won't work as a result, because the game will just try loading them with the Maniac Mansion version of SCUMM. You'd probably have to hex edit dott.exe with the replacement engine data somehow to get the correct interpreter.
I think it's definitely possible to do somehow, though.
The funny thing is, ScummVM's implementation of the computer will let you play any game..

err, no, the monster.sou IS compressed, the 'notsomuchcompressed' (noisefree mp3) audio can be found in the .fsb-files
i wonder why they included all of the old files, when you cant access the old version of the game at all without 'hacking' the tena.cle file

bgbennyboy is working on updating Double Fine Explorer to properly support extracting from it, but until then: https://quickandeasysoftware.net/software/monkey-island-explorer
The Monkey Island Explorer actually works well enough to extract the original game files. Select Monkey Island 1 mode, show 'all files' and open tenta.cle. Filter by .000, .001 and .sou files, extract those by clicking 'save files' and load them in ScummVM as normal.
Maniac Mansion is included there as well - those are all the *.lfl files in the maniac/ folder but having fun extracting those since you can only do it one file at a time. If you try to 'Save all files' it'll crash on the first texture it tries to extract.
Doublefine Explorer will hopefully get updated within the next day or two. I also do not know if the original game data files are modified in any way - I do not have the original game to compare them to.

Edit: ScummVM did not warn me about modified files on launch, so I'm gonna guess they're the original files.

You can use the Ultimate Talkies Patch to also extract audio so you can have a talkie version of MI1/2 in ScummVM. The installer handles everything for you, just point it to the pak file.

I could care less about the remastered versions of the Lucasarts games, and I just got tired of waiting on Double Fine to fix DoTT Remastered so I just extracted the original versions and used SCUMMVM. Saves a good bit of space when doing backups too. :)
Did either Monkey Island 1 or 2 non-remastered version ever have a talkie version?

You can use any MP3, so you can get the soundtrack from somewhere on the internet probably but you need to give each track the correct filename, for example Track 17.mp3 is the introduction music.
